History
The street not only a business center in the Qing Dynasty but also a religious center and a cradle for scholars.
The Old Street is built along an old Qing Dynasty official road connecting the region to Taipei.
The road also connected Hsinchu with numerous villages located to the city's northwest.
The accessibility due to the official road provided commercial opportunities and brought prosperity to the area around the North Gate Old Street, the East Gate, the Cheng Huang Temple.
