History

The street not only a business center in the Qing Dynasty but also a religious center and a cradle for scholars.

The Old Street is built along an old Qing Dynasty official road connecting the region to Taipei. 

The road also connected Hsinchu with numerous villages located to the city's northwest.

The accessibility due to the official road provided commercial opportunities and brought prosperity to the area around the North Gate Old Street, the East Gate, the Cheng Huang Temple.

1742 - Hsinchu Chang Ho Temple was built

1788 - Zheng YongHsi was born

1810 - Zheng YongHsi passed the national service examination  

1837 - Zheng YongHsi returned to Hsinchu and built the Jin Shi Mansion

1886 - Beimen Old Street suffered serious fire 

1901 - Beimen Old Street suffered serious fire again
