Chang Ho Temple
The Hsinchu Chang Ho Temple was built in 1742 under the reign of the Qing Dynasty emperor, Qian Long.
The name of the temple " Chang Ho " means long-term cooperation and peaceful coexistence. It's not hard for us to imagine how much people wish to have the blessing from the goddess to be in peace with both the sea and the people.
Chang Ho Temple was carefully and delicately designed. The dragon pillars, stone lions in the front gate, paintings on the front door and the stone sculpture are all worth visiting.
Mazu, Lin MoNian
When business boomed at the port, for the safety at the sea and protection of the civilians, an association composed of ship captains made a special invitation to Mazu, the sea goddess, to sail with them from her home temple in Meizhou, Fujian aparovince. Later, outside Hsinchu's North Gate, a temple was built for the Mazu statue.
The Mazu statue is very special, for it was one of the three original statues of the goddess, and was placed in the main shrine. Besides, the statue was soft and its limbs were movable. Last but not least, some hair of the Mazu statue is said to be Lin Mo Nian's real hair.
